Opportunity

It is anticipated that the apparel recycling industry will expand from $6.49B in 2023 to $18B by 2033, at an annual growth rate of 10%. This offers a possibility to assist individuals in decluttering their wardrobes while respecting their emotional attachment to their garments.

Ideation

I combined Project Repat’s model of transforming T-shirts into blankets with a marketplace approach like Etsy and Fiverr. This fusion created a unique platform connecting users with artisans to upcycle various garments into new, cherished items.

I built a web app that connects buyers with artisans to upcycle clothing, reducing waste. The platform generates revenue through advertising, commissions, and third-party cross-selling.

Reflections

Developing Ogologo was a journey of innovation and user-centric design. Through extensive user research, I discovered the emotional attachment users have to garments like Aso Ebi dresses, which guided the creation of a solution that respects these sentiments while addressing closet clutter.

Combining Project Repat’s model with the dynamic platforms of Etsy and Fiverr, I envisioned a marketplace for upcycling cherished garments. Building a responsive web app with personalized orders, seamless navigation, and real-time tracking was key to enhancing user experience.

Challenges, such as maintaining experiment integrity, taught me the importance of strict protocols and adaptability. Unexpected user engagement from new channels highlighted the product’s potential.

Looking ahead, integrating AI technologies will enhance visualization and customization, streamlining the user journey and fostering engagement. This project underscored the value of balancing structure with flexibility and applying best practices early on.

Ogologo is a testament to thoughtful design and the transformative power of upcycling, equipping me with invaluable insights for future endeavors.
